Oh Xi'an! WE LOVE THEE!

We are amazed how quickly we have fit right back into the routines and way of life in China.  We feel like we never left.  Coming back right at the end of the Spring Festival (the Chinese New Year) we have been able to experience their decorations.  And Xi'an really knows how to decorate!!!  Here are decorations along the street at DaYanTa:





The next day we went to old city wall and saw the decorations there as well.








And then on the weekend we went to Tang Paradise.  And according to Kim, it is the most beautiful place in Xi'an.  It is pretty spectacular and at Spring Festival it is even better. 
 

 
 
This has taken me all afternoon and I am exhausted and there is still so much to say.  But for now ENJOY these beautiful scenes of Xi'an.  Love to all.  We are happy to be back.  We miss you all though.  😘

Things We've Learned

We've been in China for 11 days.  It's been an amazing 11 days.  We've learned lots of things.  The people in China don't speak English but they're willing to work with you and try to figure out what it is you need.  There are little restaurants all along the street the seat about 15-20 people, if that many.  Everyone sells something different.  Usually they have pictures so you can order by pictures but you don't always know what you're getting.  One night we bought something at a dumpling restaurant.  She kept asking us if we wanted this or this as she pointed to the menu, and we kept telling her we didn't know.  Finally she just got us something.  It was delicious.  We told the other teachers we are here with so they wanted us to take them there and order the same thing for them. And so it begins....

Yesterday as I contemplated starting our China Training, I got a little anxious.  To think of leaving my family and going to a foreign country for a year made me feel sick!  I was sad and nervous and felt very incapable.  We are going off to a country where most people do not speak our language.  The writing on signs isn't even in my alphabet.   It is completely and totally new and foreign.  I can't think of any other words to describe it. But today we had our first day of training at BYU.  We learned a bit about the Chinese history and their government.  We learned a little about their religious beliefs.  We even learned a little about how to teach English!  😄  We also met the people who will also be living in Xi'an and teaching at either Xi'an International Studies University like us and 3 others that will be at another University.  I came away feeling so much better about what we are getting into.  I think we might be ...

Why we Have NO Regrets

Coming to China has been an experience like no other.  I know I've posted mostly just places we've been able to visit....which has been astounding.  But we've had many personal experiences as well.  Teaching these college students is a lot of work but being in the classroom with them is invigorating.  They are so eager to learn and they have hearts as big as gold.  But today we had an experience that wasn't on campus but it was these kinds of experiences as well as our every day rubbing shoulders with these wonderful people that makes us glad that we came.  We were on our way to the store to buy a couple of things.  It was a beautiful warm spring day and many of the locals were out with their children and grandchildren.  As we walked through the square, a couple of young girls raced by us on their scooters.  When they passed us they stopped, turned around and said "HI!"  We were a little surprised since they were so young.  So of ...
