Xi'an CHINA

Time is flying so fast here in China.  This semester will be over in 3 weeks.  Then we have a 2 month winter break before we start teaching again.  So, you can guess correctly that we will be doing some traveling in those 2 months.  We're very excited for that!

A typical day in China looks something like this.
5:30 I get up and get ready for the day
6:00 Kim gets up
6:45 We head out the door to catch the faculty bus to the new campus of XISU which leaves at 7:00.
8:00 We start our first classes.  The classes are about 2 hours long with a 10 minute break in the middle.  We both teach 2 classes in the morning.
12:00 Kim catches the bus to go home.  I catch it on Friday. On MW I go to the faculty Canteen for lunch
2:00 I teach one more class on MW.
4:00 I catch the bus for home on MW.
Then it's relax--get the rest of our 10,000 steps in, have dinner, do some exploring and do any prep that needs to be done before school the next day.
9:00 time to get ready for bed.
Kim teaches MTWTH.  I teach MWF.   No common day off but we're hoping for one next semester.

What a boring pair we are-but not entirely.  We have been able to see a lot of Xi'an and there is much more to see.  We went to dinner with one of the single teachers here with us on Friday and we had some good laughs as we exchanged stories of our experiences in teaching.

Kim showed his class how much weight he's lost (20 lbs.) by pulling out the waist line on his baggy pants.  One of the girls in his class came up to him during the break and told him she thought he was more handsome when he was fat.  HAHA!! I don't know how you reply to that.

Meghan had a student tell her that her roommates and her were talking and they think she was probably very pretty when she was young!  LOL!  Oh my!

While talking to a Chinese teacher on the faculty bus she told me how her 7 year old son is obsessed with trains.  When he grows up he wants to be a train engineer.  He loves all things with wheels.  One day they were at a park that had little cars for children to drive but they have to have a driving parent with them to drive them.  Ethan wanted to drive one but neither his mother nor his father know how to drive!   "WHAT?  You don't know how to drive?"  Nope.  They don't own a car and she has never driven a car.  Oh the things we learn in China.  But don't worry, Ethan went ahead and drove the car without his parents and was a natural.

This has been sitting and waiting on me to remember stories but my mind never works when I need it to so I'm going to go ahead and post.  So many stories!  So little time and memory!  No pictures today but maybe tomorrow!  Life is good.  We're enjoying celebrating Christmas time in a different realm this year.  More to come.......

  1. Always great to hear from you. In Iowa - no snow temperature has ranged from 30 to 60 and that can be in a matter of hours. Been grandma, subbing, volunteering, daughter and tomorrow a vacationer as we head to Branson for a few days. Dale has been wood cutter and carpenter. Hanging and mudding dry wall are NOT his favorite things to do but I think he is getting pretty good at it. Merry Christmas!!!!
